Constructed from 6 photographs, Recovery(), documents the rebirth of the endangered Pilliga forest following a devastating bushfire in late 2023, in non-narrative video form. The work witnesses the fragile complexity that resides in the Australian landscape. A synthesised soundtrack signals the restoration of the forest life force before the return of higher order flora and fauna.
The work merges digital photography with time-based noise manipulations to bring a new accent to the tradition of Australian impressionism. It celebrates the form and dynamism of natural systems and reminds us that recovery from any situation, however desperate, is only viable through myriad coordinations and alliances.
